Alla piccola Valerie Jane Morris-Goodall, nata a Londra il 3 Aprile 1934, il papà regalò uno scimpanzé di pezza chiamato Jubilee anziché il solito orsetto.

E Jane è diventata la più famosa esperta di scimpanzé a livello mondiale per averli studiati per decenni nelle loro interazioni sociali e familiari in Tanzania, nel parco Gombe Stream National.

Nonostante la laurea breve in Scienze Naturali nel 1964, il dottorato in Etologia e il Ph.D. «Fui aspramente criticata. Mi macchiai del crimine di antropomorfismo affermando che gli scimpanzé avevano personalità.» Ma la Regina riconobbe i suoi meriti e la nominò Dama.

To little Valerie Jane Morris-Goodall, born in London on 3 April 1934, her father gave her a stuffed chimpanzee called Jubilee instead of the usual Teddy Bear.

And Jane became the world's most famous expert on chimpanzees for having studied them for decades in their social and family interactions in Tanzania, in Gombe Stream National Park.

Despite her bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences in 1964, a doctorate in Ethology and a Ph.D. <<I was harshly criticised. I was guilty of the crime of anthropomorphism by claiming that chimpanzees had personalities.>> However, the Queen recognised her merits and appointed her Dame.
