Mary Quant

Barbara Mary Quant (Londra, 11 febbraio 1930 – Surrey, 13 aprile 2023), spopolò tra i giovani con l’invenzione della minigonna indossata da una parrucchiera di 17 anni, Leslie Hornby detta Twiggy (fuscello).

Dopo anni di vita allegra e "bohèmien" a Londra, aprì un ristorante alternativo in uno scantinato e al piano soprastante la sua bizzarra “boutique” Bazaar nel 1955.

Nel 1966, ricevette dalle mani della regina Elisabetta, l'onorificenza di Cavaliere della Corona Britannica, che l'anno prima era stato dato ai suoi idoli: i Beatles. Così Mary divenne “Dama”, l’equivalente di “Sir” per i gentiluomini.

Barbara Mary Quant (London, 11 February 1930 – Surrey, 13 April 2023), became popular among young people with the invention of the miniskirt worn by a 17-year-old hairdresser, Leslie Hornby known as Twiggy.

After years of a cheerful and "bohemian" life in London, she opened an alternative restaurant in the basement of her bizarre "boutique" Bazaar in 1955.

In 1966, he received the honour of Knight of the Crown from the hands of Queen Elizabeth Britannica, which the year before had been given to his idols: the Beatles. So Mary became “Dame”, the equivalent of “Sir” for gentlemen.
