Marion O'Brien Donovan (Fort Wayne, October 15, 1917 – New York, November 4, 1998) rimase orfana di madre a sette anni e crebbe col padre che gestiva un’azienda a conduzione familiare: Marion andava lì quando usciva da la scuola.

Dopo una laurea in Inglese, un master in Architettura e collaborazioni con la rivista Vogue si sposò due volte, ma furono i tre figli che attivarono l’inventrice! Osservando le carenze dei comuni pannolini, scarsamente resistenti all'acqua, provò e riprovò sino a giungere al suo progetto finale che chiamò "Boater": due anni dopo i quattro brevetti furono venduti per $ 1.000.000.

Iniziò a sperimentare anche pannolini “usa e getta” depositando altri 20 brevetti dal 1951 al 1996, tra cui assorbenti per le donne, filo interdentale, pacchetti dei fazzoletti di carta, gancetti per calze autoreggenti, distributore di carta asciugamani, set carta da lettera, organiser per armadi.

Marion O'Brien Donovan (Fort Wayne, October 15, 1917 – New York, November 4, 1998) lost her mother at seven. She grew up with her father who ran a family business: where Marion would spend her after-school.

Despite a Bachelor’s degree in English, an MA in Architecture, various collaborations with Vogue magazine, and two husbands, the inventor in her was activated by her three children! Observing the shortcomings of popular diapers, which were poorly resistant to water, she tried and tried until she came up with her final design which she called "Boater": two years later the four patents were sold for $1,000,000.

Marion also began to experiment with "disposable" diapers, filing another 20 patents from 1951 to 1996, including sanitary napkins for women, dental floss, paper tissue packets, hooks for hold-up stockings, paper towel dispensers, letter paper sets, and closet organisers.
