Nancy Johnson

Nancy Donaldson (28 dicembre 1794 – 22 aprile 1890) insieme con la sorella Mary si offrì volontaria per l'Associazione Missionaria Americana dove forse incontrò il suo futuro marito, Walter Rogers Johnson.

Nancy iniziò come casalinga, moglie e mamma di due figli adottivi ottenendo nel 1843 il primo brevetto per la prima zangola per gelato azionata a mano, fatto insolito in quegli anni di coverture. Quella manovella sopra il contenitore della sorbettiera che gira il composto senza fatica è così geniale da essere ancora assolutamente attuale.

Nancy fu un'emancipatrice sociale e insegnò alle donne dell'epoca che potevano farsi strada da sole.

Nancy Donaldson (December 28, 1794 – April 22, 1890), together with her sister Mary, volunteered for the American Missionary Association - where she may or may not have met her future husband, Walter Rogers Johnson.

Nancy began as a housewife, wife and mother of two adopted children, obtaining the first patent for the first hand-operated ice cream churn in 1843, which was unusual in those years of coverture. That crank above the sorbet maker container that turns the mixture effortlessly is so ingenious that it’s still used to this day.

Nancy was a social emancipator, teaching women of the time that they could pave their own way.
