Rosalyn Yalow

Rosalyn Sussman Yalow (New York, 19 luglio 1921 – New York, 30 maggio 2011) biofisica statunitense, sviluppò una tecnica per lo studio degli ormoni che viene utilizzata ancora oggi, chiamata radioimmunoassay. Fu insignita del Premio Nobel per la medicina nel 1977, per il dosaggio radioimmunologico degli ormoni proteici. 

La sua scoperta ha trovato applicazione in molteplici test come quello per distinguere tra diabete di tipo 1 e di tipo 2; determinare se un feto sia affetto da alcuni difetti congeniti; assicurarsi che le scorte nelle banche del sangue siano pulite.

Rosalyn Sussman Yalow (New York, 19 July 1921 – New York, 30 May 2011) American biophysicist, developed a technique for studying hormones that is still used today, called radioimmunoassay. She was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1977 for the radioimmunoassay of protein hormones.

Her discovery has found application in multiple tests such as the one to distinguish between type 1 and type 2 diabetes; determine whether a fetus is affected by certain congenital defects; and ensure that supplies in blood banks are clean.
